Bundle Tracking with QR on the Cut-and-Sew Floor

Bundle Tracking with QR on the Cut-and-Sew Floor

Oct 14, 2026 · Look Cloud

Most apparel factories know exactly what they cut and exactly what they shipped. What happens in between is often a guess.

Once a lay is cut and split into bundles, those bundles travel through sewing lines, outside workshops, washing, finishing and QC. Paper tickets get lost, spreadsheets lag a day behind, and the planner learns about a bottleneck only when an order is already late. QR bundle tracking closes that gap by giving every bundle a digital identity from the cutting table to the packing station.

How QR bundle tracking works

Cut & Label · Workflow

The idea is simple: every bundle carries a QR label, and every operation scans it.

Cut and label: When the cut order is confirmed, the system generates one bundle per size and ply group, with style, color, size, quantity and production order encoded in a QR label.

Scan at each operation: Operators or line supervisors scan the bundle with a phone or tablet when work starts and ends: sewing, embroidery, printing, washing, finishing.

Confirm Closure and Quantities

Record exceptions on the spot: Defects, missing pieces or rework are logged against the bundle, not on a separate sheet.

Quality Check and Defect Codes

Close at QC and packing: The final scan confirms good units and feeds the receipt back to the production order. No dedicated hardware is required—a printed label and a phone camera are enough to start.

What production data collection gives you

Real-Time Metrics · Traceability

Each scan is a timestamped event. Put together, those events turn the factory floor into live data:

  • Real WIP by stage: See how many units of each style, color and size sit in cutting, sewing, finishing or QC right now.
Production Plan Operations Progress
  • Bottlenecks before they become delays: Bundles waiting too long at one operation show up immediately, not at the end of the week.
Sewing Department Timeline Overview
  • Line and operator efficiency: Actual times per operation can be compared with standard minutes to improve planning and costing.
  • Quality traceability: A defect found at QC can be traced back to the bundle, the line and the operation that produced it.
  • Reliable delivery dates: Production managers can commit dates to customers based on actual progress, not estimates.

Real floors are messy: splits, rework and outside workshops

Splits · Workshops · Reconciliations

Generic tracking tools assume a bundle moves in one piece. Cut-and-sew rarely works that way.

Bundles get split when part of the quantity goes to rework or to a different line. Look Cloud keeps the parent-child relationship, so every sub-bundle stays traceable to its origin and quantities always reconcile.

Many brands also send work to external workshops for sewing, embroidery or finishing. Each workshop gets its own identity in the system and can scan bundles out and back in. You see what left the factory, what came back, and what is still outside, without chasing suppliers by phone.

From the floor to the ERP

ERP Integration · Digital Passport

Shop-floor data only matters if it reaches the rest of the business. In Look Cloud, bundle events update production orders, WIP and receipts in your ERP, whether you run SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA or Acumatica. Planners, finance and customer service all work from the same numbers.

The same data also builds your product’s history: which factory, which workshop, which operations. As the EU Digital Product Passport becomes a reality, that traceability stops being a nice-to-have and becomes a requirement.
